Adult Forum March 2015

March 8-Bethel’s Written Invitation to the Lord’s Supper.Facilitated by Pastor Yancey and Matt Bear, Chairperson, Worship Committee:   In this final adult forum discussion on the ELCA document on the Use of the Means of Grace, we examine additional key sources and read/critique proposed statements for Bethel’s written invitation to the Lord’s Supper.

March 15 and 22- Dr. Tobias Winright is the Hubert Mader Chair of Health Care Ethics and Associate Professor of Theological Ethics at St. Louis University. Toby has facilitated discussions at adult forum several times over the years. Some of you may recall that before Toby began studying theological ethics, he was a police officer. His unique formation as a cop-theologian gives him a deepened understanding of some of recent social questions regarding policing, and civil disobedience. He has recently published an article in Sojourners on this topic.   Join us for what will be a very interesting discussion.

March 15- “Whose Community? Which Policing?” Toby will survey the history of policing and the spectrum of models of policing, with attention to the militarization of the police, critically evaluated from a Christian ethical perspective.

March 22- “What’s Civil about Civil Disobedience?” Toby will examine recent protests and demonstrations vis-a-vis how civil disobedience was understood and practiced during the Civil Rights Movement.
